Who knew governance could be so rewarding? I became a governor to give something back to the school; ten years on, I feel I have contributed so much to improve the learning experience for the pupils, whilst developing my personal growth and skills. Using GovernorHub has really helped us with our roles; I don't know how we survived without it.
Sejal, Chair, London
I volunteer as it's my way to take a stand, to support schools during uniquely difficult times and to share my skills for the benefit of others. Volunteering as a governor is my way to invest in the next generation and support school staff who are nurturing and caring for the most vulnerable in our society - our children.
Ashley, Governor, Durham
I have always believed the best way to support change is to roll your sleeves up and get involved. Over time I've learnt that governance is not a one-way street, you actually learn loads that help support your own personal and professional practice away from your governance role. It's a win-win and just the right thing to do if you can, and now more than ever.
Al, MAT Chair, Peterborough
I volunteer as a governor to ensure that schools are providing the best outcomes for children.
Charlotte, Trustee, Chelmsford
Because everyone should give some of their time, however little, to help others. It's what makes the world work. And, I enjoy it!
Jane, Chair, Newcastle upon Tyne
It's great to be doing something worthwhile that supports children and young people. And, it's interesting and fun.
Michelle, Governor, Merseyside
I volunteer to show my support to our local school and help ensure it meets its visions to inspire, raise aspirations and create brighter tomorrows.
Sue, Governor, Newark
It sounds such a cliché, but being able to add value to a child's educational experience is a huge privilege. And biscuits!
Wendy, Chair of Governors, London
I want to help my school give students every opportunity to be the best they can.
Zena, Vice chair, Bath
What better way to give forward and more, not just for my child, but children in general who are going to be tomorrow's leaders.
Zehra, Parent governor, High Wycombe
I believe that being a volunteer helps improve our community and can have a positive impact on the lives of others. I volunteer as a school governor as I want children to receive their right to the best possible education and the opportunity to be the best they can be. School governance can be challenging, but it's also very rewarding; it feels good to know that I am contributing to the future success of the children in our school by ensuring they receive the best possible learning opportunities, and also the knowledge and encouragement to know that they can make a positive difference to their community and the world. I want children to leave our school excited for the next phase of their education and with the enthusiasm to succeed.
Pauline, Chair of Governors, Shildon
I become a governor a few months ago in order to be involved, and hold some kind of accountability to the school my children go to. As a governor you find out so much more interesting information.
